"We were under attack. My family had all been destroyed by the invaders of the day. There was nothing left upon the face of the planet, and after this launch--there will be no more planet. My ammunition has run out, and the lasers are rendered useless by the fallout. I had found him as a cub, romping through the campsite--where I had brought my family on our last trip to the great forest, for I knew, even back then, several years ago--that the war was coming--and we would all likely perish. Who could withstand such a terrible foe? He was strong, and had that cunning that all of his kind once had. He took to us and loved us--as much as we took to and loved him. He was gentle with the children--and yet, stern with strangers who may have come too close to our dwelling. He gave protection of us all. The orb was too small for me to have fit in--and it was my first prototype, therefore, I wanted him to be given the chance to survive--the same chance he had given us in his warnings when the invaders had landed on our homeland. He bought us some time to defend ourselves before the end came. That end--is upon me now. Surely, the blue planet could sustain him--and there would be others of his kind there--for we had visited your planet long ago in our peaceful travels--and I felt that we all could find peace there--if only I had had more time to develop the larger orb. We called him, 'Wolf,' for that was the name given to his kind upon your planet. I write this message now--with my last few breaths, given to the hope that you may read our tongue--and allow our friend, Wolf, should he survive the long voyage--to live in freedom. I must save my strength now to launch the orb. Please, care for him as I would have cared for you--or your kind.
